Jack Howard played trumpet with Hunters & Collectors and along the way has performed with Midnight Oil,The Violent Femmes, Rodriguez, The Living End and a host of others. Alyce Platt is one of Australia’s most beloved TV stars, featuring in Sons And Daughters, Neighbours and Sale Of The Century. Nicky Del Rey is one of Melbourne’s great guitarists, performing with Tex Perkins, Intoxica, The Cartridge Family, Monique Brumby and so many more.
What Jack, Alyce and Nick have in common is their own powerful song writing and performing history.
Alyce has been performing with various brilliant versions of her Fish Shop Collective for the past fifteen years and has been releasing gorgeous records like Funny Little World. Jack and Nick have been recording together with Jack’s band the mighty Long Lost Brothers, their own duo and Nick’s solo work for over thirty years; and they’ve both been performing with Alyce for the last ten years.
They are all very different singers and songwriters but they share a strong common theme of soul-searching lyricism and great melodic sensibility. In this new trio, they perform each other’s songs with empathy and gorgeous three part harmonies. With Alyce on acoustic guitar, Nick on electric guitar and Jack on trumpet and flugel horn, their sound is rich but with enough space to hear the words – which are worth hearing. Jack’s songwriting has that classic H & C punch with the big chorus and horn-driven grooves, Alyce writes with sophistication and sensitivity and Nick brings a strong hint of country to the mix.
